For nearly 25 years, I’ve had the chance to work with and observe some of the best association CEOs in the business. Several traits differentiate the exceptional leaders – here are a few:
First and foremost, the top CEOs have the best staff. These leaders aren’t afraid to seek out people who excel in areas where they may not be as strong. This approach takes a certain amount of moxie and self-confidence, but with an exceptional team and a little bit of hustle, nothing can stop you.
Secondly, the most effective CEOs exude energy and demonstrate an active engagement within their association, both of which are inspirational and drive the organization forward.
And third, the very best CEOS are closely involved at some level in the new money game. They are taking a hard look at the long-term impact of business factors; effective use of resources; and growth strategies to cultivate highly relevant associations that offer immense value to their members.
